Discovering the Heart of Osho with Swami Vedant
ByBack in the 1970’s when I was involved with Transcendental Meditation (TM), I was vaguely aware that there were “other” gurus out there teaching techniques and methods of self-discovery or enlightenment. One of the biggest names coming out of India at that time was Bahgwan Shree Rajneesh, later referred to as Osho.
The news reports of Osho’s ranch in Oregon, with his dozen Rolls Royces and dancing disciples (Sannyasins), made a big splash – often in an unflattering way. In later years, after marrying a former Sannyasin and reading some of Osho’s many published books, I became fascinated with the brilliance of the man, and the timeliness of his work. He truly understand the nature of consciousness, and the ability (or inability) of mankind to grasp it.
Swami Satya Vedant (also know as Dr. Vasant Joshi) was one of Osho’s earliest disciples, and later charged with writing his biography. He is my guest on Logical Soul Talk on Tuesday, November 9th at 6 pm ET, and will share with listeners some of the insights and answers that came to him during those magical years. Due to the extraordinary nature of this material and guest, THIS WILL BE A SPECIAL ONE-HOUR SHOW (60 minutes)!
Vedant, a native of India, actually first heard about Osho while studying in the United States. He traveled from Chicago to India in 1975 to participate in a ten-day Osho Meditation Camp, and was immensely moved by Osho’s presence and vision. He was immediately initiated as a disciple and given the name Swami Satya Vedant.
Vedant was subsequently appointed by Osho to be Chancellor of the Osho Multiversity. He has written four books and numerous articles, and has translated four books of Osho’s discourses given in Hindi.
Vedant currently gives lectures and holds workshops worldwide on a variety of topics including Awareness and Meditation, Stress Management and Education. He has held workshops at the United Nations, the World Bank, the Pentagon and Deepak Chopra’s Center in San Diego. In 2010 he was a key speaker at ‘India Today Conclave 2010’ and at ‘All Russia International Advaita Congress’ in Moscow. This year two of his books are published: OSHO, The Luminous Rebel – Life Story of a Maverick Mystic; and If It Could Happen to Buddha, Why Not You?
Swami Vedant has been in the academic field for over thirty years, teaching in India and the United States. He holds two Ph.D. degrees: in Literature from M.S.University, Baroda, India, and in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has taught at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Michigan, and at Cleveland State University in Ohio.
